Rights and Responsibilities of Students

Each student is seen as a responsible individual, with the ability, with guidance, to make responsible decisions regarding conduct and deportment, as well as academic achievement at this institution. While the administration will ensure that your RIGHTS are protected, you need to respect the RIGHTS of others and support an environment that will foster your personal and intellectual development.

Accompanying the RIGHTS stated below, are RESPONSIBILITIES that you are required to accept:

  1. RESPECT

    You retain the RIGHT to be treated with respect by all persons, irrespective of age, gender or status. However, you have the corresponding RESPONSIBILITY to respect all others within the school community. Gross or repeated insolence to teachers will never be tolerated, and will attract punishment.

     

  2. EDUCATION

    You have the RIGHT to and education, and to learn according to your ability. With this comes the RIGHT to all the resources necessary for the achievement of learning objectives including the library, internet, adequate instruction, accurate information about your course of study, examination procedures, to receive your examination results on time, and explanation or reasons for failure. You are equally RESPONSIBLE for your own learning, for adhering to deadlines for submission of homeworks and other assignments including your school based assignments and not disturbing the learning of others by being disruptive in classes.

     

  3. SECURITY and SAFETY

    You have a RIGHT to feel safe in and around the school, and to be informed of the potential dangers of chemicals, machinery and equipment and other materials used in the laboratories as part of your course of study, and to be advised of ways to protect yourself from danger. You also have a RIGHT to adequate security while at school.

    You have the corresponding RESPONSIBILITY to ensure the safety of your schoolmates by behaving in a RESPONSIBLE manner in and around the school. You do this by not engaging in activities that will disturb other students as they exercise their RIGHT to an education. You have a RESPONSIBILITY to avoid engaging in fights, which may cause personal injury, in bullying or sexual harassment.

    You also need to take the necessary action to protect yourself from potential danger by observing lab rules and wearing the necessary protective gear when using the workshops or on the playfield.

     

  4. FACILTIES & PROPERTY

    You have a RIGHT to use the school facilities; the sick bay when you are feeling ill, canteen and tuck shop for lunches and snacks, the outdoor seats for relaxation, socialization, and study, the library for research, and the corridors for free passage to and from classrooms.

    You have the corresponding RESPONSIBILITY:
    1. to respect the schedule for the start and end of classes.
    2. to respect the order for areas that are out of bounds to students such as in front of the sick bay, behind the Principal and Vice Principal’ offices, the Agricultural plot, guard house, and behind the Tuck Shop.
    3. to not to destroy the school furniture, deface the walls with graffiti, especially, bathroom and classroom walls
    4. to not mark, deface or damage books received from the library or the Textbook Rental Project.
    5. to not to tamper with wires running overhead or along buildings.
    6. to not remove the furniture and equipment or library materials from their designated places
    7. to not be out of classes during class times
    8. to not remove taps from water pipes and electrical fittings
    9. to not remove parts for computers in laboratories or the library, or any other areas equipped for their uses.

     

  5. IDENTIFICATION

    Upon payment of the required fees, you have a RIGHT to an ID photograph. This will be used to ensure access to the internet and reference material in the library. You have the RESPONSIBILITY to acquire an ID in order to benefit from the special services as a student.

     

  6. GROUNDS
    You have a RIGHT to use the school grounds. However, you have the corresponding RESPONSIBILITY to observe the following limitations:
    1. Littering: All garbage must be disposed of in the drums or bags provided to maintain a clean environment. Every student must participate in beautifying the grounds by planting flowers, shrubs and trees.
    2. Jumping the Wall: Students are not to exit or enter the school compound by way of perimeter wall or school roof.

     

  7. CELLULAR PHONES
    You have the RIGHT to communicate with your parents in case of an emergency. You have the corresponding RESPONSIBILITY to avoid taking cellular phones to school, which are a nuisance, and a means of organizing unlawful activity. In case of an emergency and the need to communicate with a relative, seek the help of the office in this regard.

     

  8. ALCOHOL, WEPONS AND DRUGS

    You have a DUTY to refrain from the use of alcohol, weapons and drugs. It is a criminal offence to be in possession of or use weapons and illegal drugs and an arrest can be made by the law officers.
