Jonathan Grant High School

Work Experience Report

The Work Experience programme has been an integral component of the school's curriculum for the past twenty (20) years.

Grade eleven students are placed in work stations at agencies in both the Private and Public Sectors to sample first-hand a realistic employment situation and are given a chance to practice the knowledge and skills they have gained in the final two years at school. The importance of the Work Experience programme cannot be over-emphasized since it forms an important part of students' Ministry Certification and is an added advantage when they gain employment.

One valuable objective of the programme is the development of a working relationship among the school, the community and the business industry.

Many students who are unable to move on to sixth form or into tertiary institutions are often able to gain employment at the establishment from which they gained their work experience.

The 2005-2006 Work Experience programme started off with average success but came upon many obstacles in the first and second terms of the academic year. We recall the events of two hurricanes, several road blocks and other unfortunate events which hampered the mobility of students who were placed on the programme.

We are however thankful to the management and staff of all work agencies, who have facilitated the program over the years. As part of our 25th anniversary celebration, 25 of these companies were honoured at our annual Prize Giving Ceremony.

To the parents who surmounted the economic hardships and made sacrifices so that their children could be involved, you have ably done your part.

To the gruduates, I say let God be your guide as you leave this noble institution.
