Jonathan Grant High School

Social Studies Department

The mission of the Social Studies department is geared towards meeting the challenges of the 21st century and beyond, teaching life skills, producing stalwarts to function in our global economy and effectively and efficiently support the school in its endeavours, uphold discipline and foster harmonious change.

Housed under the Social Studies Department are the disciplines of Social Studies, Caribbean History, Religious Education, and Geography. The Social Studies Department maintains a long standing tradition of offering quality instruction to students. Students are prepared by qualified, dedicated and committed teachers for the various national and regional exams. These exams include the Reform of Secondary Education (ROSE), Caribbean Examinatios Council (CXC) and Secondary School Certificate (SSC).

To enhance the academic performance of students, we involve them in exciting learning experiences such as hands-on activities, field trips, role playing, research and oral presentations. As a result we have continued to see improved exam results especially in CXC.

The members of the Social Studies Department desire to forge ahead to maintain the moral and cultural upliftment of our students as well as to equip them to face the challenge of the 21st century, so that they will be more prepared to function effectively in the changing world and make worthwhile contributions for the betterment of our Jamaican society.
