Jonathan Grant High School

Mathematics Department

For the academic Year 2005-2006, the Mathematics Department started with a complement of twelve teachers working arduously to bring about positive attitude and appreciation for the subject. The task is a great one as most times the students have a fear of the subject. It must be noted that even though our passes in CXC used to be low, this year there was a significant increase in the number of passes. Consequently we have employed some strategies to improve the success rate of students at the CXC level. In addition there is a Mathematics Club in place consisting of students from grades nine and ten that meets every Friday at 12:45pm.

The department is driven by its mission statement as we try to achieve our objective that is:
To enable students to develop their numerate and problem solving skills in collaboration with ROSE, CXC, and SSC requirements, as well as a good understanding of the subject area which will prepare them for the world of work and life in the 21st Century, thus allowing them to have a total appreciation of Mathematics. This will be achieved with the use of instructional materials, technological aids and highly qualified personnel.
