Service Based Activities

The Cadets

The Cadets are very active and have done the school proud in their inspection exercise. Last year Jovery Welsh represented Jamaica at the Caribbean Cadet Camp which took place from July 15 to 29 in Trinidad. Jonathan Grant placed 2nd out of the six schools in the battalion this year. Mr. P.O. Hanson is the officer in charge this year. J Welsh and L.Mair were successful in their Star Three Examination, L. Mair being the most outstanding of thirty eight participants from schools island wide.

The Red Cross

In 2005 Mrs. Marshall led this club while Miss Wilks was on leave. They had regular meetings on Wednesdays and Fridays. Their theme was 'Serve with love' and with this in mind they visited Strathmore Garden Children's Home. They had a concert for the children, fed them and gave them gifts.

The club is now under the leadership of Miss Wilks and members have been involved in a number of activities. Selected members from the group participated in a training course on AIDS/STD which was put on by the Red Cross Society. Successful members were given certificates.

Members of the club also visited the Spanish Town Infirmary, where they distributed various items to the patients. They are frequently involved in devotional exercises at school and conduct peer counselling sessions with their colleagues in need. Twelve new members were enrolled in a ceremony held at the school.

The group attended the Youth Rally which was held on May 12 at the Jamaica Conference Centre. Activities included Drill training, Art and Craft, First Aid and the making of a banner. They were awarded first place in the drill training.

The 4H Club

The 4H club emerged as Parish champions year after year in the annual competitions. In 2005 the club participated in the annual Parish achievement body in April and was placed 1st in the High School category and 2nd overall.

Club members participated in a Broiler Chicken project through which they received one hundred chickens from the parish. These were housed at the school and students were responsible for the management and handling of them.

This year the club held regular meetings from September to April. These meetings took place on campus and training took place at Rose Hall Training Centre. Students were trained in Cattle Management, Bee Keeping, Poultry and Management, Building and Grafting, Skirt making etc.

These students entered some of the competitions and scored. Oneika Taylor and Elton Harris placed 1st in Poultry Care and Budding and Grafting at the parish level. They went on to Denbigh to compete at the national level. Some items such as crotchet handbags, crotchet bath suits and hand embroidery items were chosen for display at the national level.

JAYDA Club

The JAYDA Club has been carrying out projects that help the less fortunate in our society. They have visited the Mustard Seed Community and Children's Homes in Spanish Town and made contributions of gifts to them. This club is coordinated by the Guidance Counsellors.
